About me

My name is Warren (Robby) Nekurak, and I’m running to serve as a Councillor for Saulteaux First Nation. As a proud member of Saulteaux First Nation, I have ancestry that dates back to the leaders of our homeland.

As a descendant of Treaty 6 signatory Alex Katcheech of Saulteaux First Nation, my family line carries deep responsibilities to our people and our Treaty. I am also connected through my great-grandmother Ada Bush, whose father was Treaty 6 signatory Pete Bush of Witchekan Lake, and whose mother was his wife, Helen Sakebow. My family line includes my great-grandmother Mary Katcheech, my great-grandfather Francis Moccasin, my grandfather Leo Moccasin Sr., my grandmother Ada Bush, my mother Patricia Moccasin, and my father Warren Nekurak Sr. I’m proud of my family history and my connection to Our Nation.

Saulteaux First Nation deserves leadership that is present, prepared, and accountable. Leadership that represents our community as a government with inherent rights and responsibilities on our land.

I’m an entrepreneur, educator and community-focused leader with a track record of building practical multi-year projects and plans. I’ve launched and developed initiatives rooted in education, youth empowerment, and economic opportunity. I believe in helping our people succeed in today’s world without losing who we are.

Professionally, I’ve also been committed to strengthening Indigenous prosperity through economic development thinking, including work and interest in helping First Nations build long-term opportunity through tools like Urban Reserves, stronger partnerships, and Nation-led planning. I understand how municipalities and governments operate, and I know how to push for agreements that move beyond symbolism into real jurisdiction, real economic outcomes, and real leverage for Our Nation.

Why I’m a strong choice

I’m running on clear priorities and a clear standard:

1) Economic Development that creates independence

Economic sovereignty is real sovereignty. I will advocate for Nation-driven development that builds own-source revenue, supports our citizens, and strengthens our long-term financial stability, so we’re not forced to rely on short-term program funding or outside decision-makers.

2) Youth programming that builds strong futures

I believe investing in youth is the most powerful long-term decision any Nation can make. I want more opportunities in skills development, mentorship, leadership, wellness, culture, and modern pathways. Our young people need to feel supported, capable, and proud of who they are.

3) Cultural revitalization grounded in Treaty and our systems

I will support efforts that strengthen language, identity, and our traditional values in decision-making systems. Our Nation’s future is built on our laws, our ways, and our responsibilities as First Nations People.

4) Transparency and accountability you can measure

I believe leadership must report back clearly and consistently. I will push for practical accountability, regular updates, open communication, and a community-first approach where membership can ask questions, be heard, and see follow-through.

My commitment to you

I’m not interested in politics for its own sake. I’m interested in outcomes, better opportunities, stronger governance, stronger community trust, and leadership that doesn’t disappear after election season.

If elected, I will work with the membership to create a stronger culture of participation, where people can bring forward issues, share solutions, and help shape the direction of Our Nation. Our people deserve a government that listens, acts, and reports back.

I’m asking for your vote because I’m ready to work consistently, respectfully, and strategically for Saulteaux First Nation.
